Practical Business Storytelling: how to sell without selling out

No-one cares about your brilliant idea. When you try telling people about it, their eyes glaze over, and you realise later on that they just didn't get it. Just giving people more detail doesn't work, and neither does the hard-sell. The list of people you need to inspire is intimidating: investors, colleagues, partners, prospective customers; how on earth can you explain this to everyone? The problem is... you're too close to the problem. Deep expertise is useful for solving problems, but not for inspiring people. You need to take implicit knowledge, and make it explicit. And it's not just explaining it: to get an idea out there, you also need to be a good listener. The best communicators aren't simply people with the gift of the gab, they figure out what someone needs before the suggest anything at all. In the age of AI, the ability to explain clearly and listen carefully are hidden superpowers. You can't Claude your way to clarity, or Llama your listening skills. You have to human your way over that hill. What you need are communication tools that are easy to remember and practise. In this session, Ben Sauer will cover some of the high leverage methods that unlock clarity, whether it's explaining a solution or understanding a customer problem. • Story ingredients that make more sense to people than dumping all the details • How to structure your communication for impact and listening • Habits that make you a better listener
