AI Is Going to Be OK: What 40 Years of Technology Change Tells Us About What Comes Next

Every wave of technology has brought disruption, uncertainty, and bold predictions about the future of work. AI is no different. While the narrative often swings between hype and fear, the reality is more nuanced. This session brings a grounded perspective from decades of experience across multiple eras of computing, combined with a modern view of how AI is actually being used today. It explores how technology consistently reshapes the way we work, without removing the need for human judgement, and why the biggest risk today isn’t AI itself, but how we choose to adopt it. AI is about perspective. Do we look at AI as just another technology tool or do we look at it as an intelligent coworker? Do we really understand enough about AI to unleash it to work autonomously? How do we ensure we do not create and even bigger Digital Divide between those that have AI and those that do not? How is AI impacting the way we work and think today and what does this mean for our future?
