Beyond the Accelerator: What Founders Really Need to Grow

Founder support is changing. The old model of fixed cohorts, short programmes and one-off introductions is giving way to something more continuous, connected and responsive. This talk explores what early-stage businesses really need as they move from idea to traction, from traction to scale, and from local ambition to wider market opportunity. Rather than focusing on startup support as a programme, the session looks at it as an ecosystem. What kind of access do founders actually value? Where do networks make a meaningful difference? How can large organisations support growth without slowing founders down? And how do we make sure support reaches businesses across regions, not just those already closest to the centre? Drawing on practical experience of working with founders and growing businesses, the talk will explore the role that banks, corporates and ecosystem partners can play in helping entrepreneurs navigate uncertainty, build confidence, access expertise and find the right opportunities at the right time. For founders, the question is no longer just “how do I get onto a programme?” It is “how do I build the right network around me, and use it well?”
