Sessions

Shaping Tomorrow: The Economy, Technology, and the Next Wave of Change

In a world of rapid technological change and growing global uncertainty, how should the UK think about its economic future? In this session, Vince Cable returns to EVOLVE with an updated perspective on the themes he explored previously, combining a state-of-the-nation view of the British economy with a clear-eyed look at the technologies shaping what comes next. Vince will reflect on recent developments in green technology, including batteries and hydrogen, and place them in the wider context of innovation, productivity, and long-term growth. He will also touch on the shifting global landscape, where competition between major economies is increasingly driven by technological capability, from AI to clean energy. Grounded, accessible, and big-picture, this talk offers an informed and pragmatic view of how economic policy, technological progress, and responsible decision-making intersect, and what that means for businesses, leaders, and communities shaping tomorrow.
