ABOUT THE SPEAKER
José Luis Verdú Galiana is Professor of Physics and Quantum Technology at the University of Sussex, with research focused on ion Penning traps for quantum technology applications using trapped electrons. His group has developed a scalable Penning trap known as the “geonium chip”, which is being explored as a quantum microwave photon detector and emitter. His work has potential applications across quantum radar, near-field microwave microscopy and quantum microwave imaging. José has been part of the University of Sussex for more than 17 years, holding roles including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader in Atomic Physics and Quantum Technology, and Professor, following earlier research positions at Vienna University of Technology, the University of Heidelberg and the University of Mainz.
